Proof of Residency

When registering to vote in Lexington County, the Voter Registration Office is required to receive "proof of residency" from you, pursuant to the 2002 Federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA). If you registered and you were not asked to supply this information at the time you must provide "proof of residency" BEFORE you vote at the polls or BEFORE your absentee ballot is counted. "Proof of residency" can be established by taking a copy of one of the following to the Voter Registration Office:

- A current and valid photo identification (with current address)
      OR

- A current utility bill

- Bank statement

- Government check

- Paycheck

- Government document – excluding your voter registration card

If identification other than photo ID is presented, it must show your current and correct name and address.

To reduce the time spent at the polls on Election Day, it is suggested that you provide a copy of one of the above to the voter registration office as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please call (803) 785-8361.
