Beginning January 1, 2025, Lexington County will begin regulating Short-Term Rental land use activities within the unincorporated jurisdiction of the County.

Property owners will now be required to obtain a Short-Term Rental Zoning Permit to legally operate a Short-Term Rental within the County. The permitting process will be done in phases as there are currently more than 650 properties utilized as host sites for Short-Term Rentals within our jurisdiction. The Department of Community Development Zoning Division will be handling conformance with these new regulations. They anticipate the initial wave of compliance letters to be mailed by December of this year.

Property owners may also initiate zoning compliances beginning January 1, 2025. Once the initial permitting process has been completed by Zoning staff, access to online Short-Term Rental applications will be made available on the County’s website.
